A lecturer accused of rape at Bida Polytechnic, Niger state, has been placed on half-salary by the school authorities. The unnamed lecturer at the department of public administration was accused of raping a diploma year one student.
PUNCH reports that the lecturer was caught in the act and handed over to the police and is currently in custody pending completion of investigation.
Hussaini Enagi, the polytechnic PRO, told the newspaper that the official has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation by the disciplinary committee.
He was placed on half-salary, he said.
Enagi said: “It is true that there have been an allegation of rape against one of our lecturers. The case has been referred to the senior staff disciplinary committee for investigation and recommendation.
“The alleged crime is also being investigated by the police. The official has been suspended and will also receive half salary pending the outcome of the committee’s investigation.”
Bala Elkana, the Niger state police PRO, said the victim was receiving treatment at the school medical centre.
