A WOMAN named Charity Pierce who was once believed to be the heaviest in the world has lost a whopping 31 stone but almost paid for the weight loss with her life.
She weighed in a 55 stone 8 lb when she first appeared on My 600lb Life, two years ago.
Housebound with severe mobility problems, the 39-year-old vowed to lose enough weight to walk down the aisle with fiancé Tony Sauer.
She revealed: “‘I would rather die than live this way.”
She also vowed to lose enough weight to visit her mother, who was suffering from brain cancer but, sadly, she passed away before Charity was fit enough to fly.
The mum, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, carried on with her battle and after a year had lost 282lbs.
But after surgery to remove a whopping two stone of excess flesh, Charity picked up an deadly infection and was rushed back into hospital to prevent her going into toxic shock.
The show’s doctor, Dr Younan Nowzaradan, performed emergency surgery on Charity to rid her of the infection.
Charity has struggled with weight issues all her life, and weighed over 35 stone by the time she was in her early teens.
But an accident in 2000 left her with mobility problems and a condition called lymphedema, which caused a huge swelling in her left leg.
But after finding love with toyboy Tony, now 23, he encouraged her to lead a seek medical help for her weight issues.
He said: ‘I’m scared of losing her if she doesn’t get this help.”
After approaching the TLC show, Charity cut down from 10,000 calories to a healthy 1,200 and began exercising daily.
As her weight began to drop, Charity also began to worry about daughter Charly, 19, who had begun to pile on the pounds.
The pair attended therapy together and Charly shed a stone in the first month while her mother’s weight loss, over two years, totalled 31st 6lb.
